Your Father's Day Gift Guide
Do you ever feel like Father's Day is a bit of an afterthought?
Take a moment to think about all the expectations of Mother's Day. Think about all the ads, the influencers, the think pieces. Mother's Day gifts often include jewelry, spa days, facials, champagne. We pamper our moms because they deserve it.
Our moms are often the ones holding everything down and holding it all together. That is how I would describe my mom. And as a mother myself, I am not complaining. I haven't have a full 8 hours of uninterrupted in nearly 5 years. Stored up in my matrescence-addled brain is my weekly schedule, my 4-year-olds weekly schedule, my 2-year-olds weekly schedule, and my husband's weekly schedule.
I also know exactly where my son likes to hide (and forget he hid) his toy airplane so his sister doesn't get it, which color lollipop my daughter likes, and in which order we must all ascend and descend stairs.
Moms do a lot.
But Dads do a lot too.
I guess the stereotype is that moms are managing the household while dads are off golfing. Which of those two people do you think most deserves a spa break?
For many families, this is unfortunately a true split of duties. But for many families there is more of an equal divide in the house and home.
So let's celebrate them.
For the dads who are planning and cooking the family meals, the ones shuttling their kids across all their activities, the ones Saturday mornings alone with their kids so mom gets her me-time, the dads stepping up and taking on equal physical and mental responsibility of the house and home, we see you. We applaud you. We appreciate you.
And guess what, some of those dads may not be looking for a new grill accessories, golf club, baseball cap...<insert other "manly" products>.
Some of these might appreciate a heartfelt message in a illustrated greeting card, or a keychain celebrating their favorite books, or a notebook to document the adventures of being a dad.
And if one of those dads is your dad, then please peruse this Father's Day gift guide.
